Moving Toward Spring

The Sun is remaining above the horizon longer each day as the Earth continues in its orbit and makes our star's path through the sky appear to head northward.

One of my office windows faces to the southeast, and I have two mirrors strategically located to catch the Sun rising.

I'm up every day at 4:44 a.m. and love the dawn.  Last week the Sun began to appear in the first mirror, which is convex and has a wide field of view.

Sunlight is also streaming back into our living room and kitchen at least briefly each day.

These changes are signs of the approaching spring which will begin with the equinox on March 20.

It's fun to be in touch with these ancient motions.
