Venus Transit

Venus moved across the Sun from the POV of Earth last Tuesday afternoon.  It was spectacular as the attached image indicates.  The light ring around the ink-black planet is Venus' atmosphere!

Many members of my family and some friends saw about 90 minutes of the transit through my Celestron 8" telescope.

The website Astronomy Picture of the Day--the source of the attached image--is featuring a video put together by NASA today.  If you visit the site in the future, check the archive for June 11, 2012.
